Before you make up your mind about joining any of the many different types of martial arts, it would be a good idea to first make a list of all martial arts because they all come in different styles and also types. If your introduction to martial arts has been through watching them performed on TV or in the movies, then such a list of all martial arts will help dispel false impressions and help you learn about the nitty-gritty of the various disciplines. And, if you are like the many that believe that martial arts is so easy that anyone can learn them in a short while, you would need to first do some research if you want to truly learn what each martial art type is really like and learn to separate fact from fiction.

Fairly Long Lists

You can be sure that a list of all martial arts that you make is going to be fairly long and there are bound to be some martial arts that are well known while others may come as a complete surprise to you. A list of all martial arts will help you firstly know about the better known martial arts such as Karate, Judo, Kung Fu and Jiu Jitsu, and also introduce you to some of the lesser known ones. Probably, the martial arts discipline that is sure to be at the top of a list of all martial arts would is Karate that is immensely popular and whose purpose is to help you attack as well as even kill attackers, though at present it is being taught as self defense discipline and which can be learnt by people of all ages.

Judo will also definitely find mention in a list of all martial arts and it is also very popular and which has been widely practiced in Japan where it was developed originally, and it has many benefits to it including being a fun activity, workout for cardiovascular health and just like Karate, it can be practiced by people of all ages as well as both sexes. And, just like Karate, it is meant to teach you self defense.

A slightly different activity that will also find place in a list of all martial arts is Kendo that teaches self defense while handling a sword, and it is something that is especially useful for soldiers in an army who can learn it to attack enemies, while also proving it useful to those who simply want to learn a fun martial art activity. Another activity to include in a list of all martial arts is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is perhaps one of the better self defense martial art activities though its main focus is on ground fighting, and it can also be practiced by people of all ages, though it may prove to be a bit too much for children.

Thus, as is evident, there are many martial arts that can easily are included in a list of all martial arts, and you can be sure that once you learn them, they will all make you feel more confident and improve your fitness levels and most important of all, teach you to protect you from attacks.

There are many different styles of martial arts that are available to practice, but one of the least well known styles is the African martial arts. The African martial arts systems are actually over 50,000 years old and today the applications are just as used and respected as they were when they first originated.

Styles

There are four basic styles of the African martial arts that are practiced, which are: Hapkido, Judo, Ju-Jitsu, and Tai-Chi. Hapkido is a martial art form that is characterized primarily by kicking without retraction, and it is a style which is composed of three primary skills: circular motion to countering and attacking, nonresistance when meeting force, and the water principle.

It is a style which emphasizes body and mind coordination, and the techniques used here are applied by combining physics, geometry, psychology and physiology. Kicks are most important to learn and are used as defense against kicks as hand strikes are used to defend hand strikes.

Judo is one of the most well recognized African martial arts, and Judo is known as the gentle martial art form, as it is not used to promote violence but rather the point is to simply overcome the attacker and defend either oneself or another. It is a modern type of combat sport in which the most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the basic object is to either throw the opponent to the ground or immobilize the opponent.

With Ju-Jitsu, this is a martial art form that specializes in close techniques including joint locks, chokes, throws and grappling. Students typically learn traditional Ju-Jitsu primarily by observation and imitation as patterned by the prearranged forms, and the movements used tend to emphasize circularity and as well capitalize on an opponents momentum and openings.

Ju-Jitsu as a competitive sport is known for being rather controversial, and this is because there are some very dangerous techniques used, such as throwing an opponent from a standing position while having an arm in a jointlock, and this can result in the opponent sustaining serious injuries.

Finally there is Tai-Chi, which is another incredibly popular style of African martial arts. Tai-Chi is practiced with the aim of promoting health and longevity, and is more practiced for enjoyment and fun than for competition or defense.

All martial arts are important to learn, not only so that you can learn how to defend yourself and others but as well to promote a better and healthier way of living.

Century Martial Arts deserves a great deal of credit for offering the complete and classic Panther Video library on DVD and at incredibly low prices. In fact, many of the DVD releases that Century Martial Arts offers cost roughly $9.95. When the Panther Videos first came out they were $49.95! So, Century Martial Arts is owed a great deal of praise for keeping the library in circulation long after the original company collapsed.

A Brief History of Panther Video

Anyone who was an avid reader of the martial arts magazines of the 1980s and 1990s will never forget the loud and proud advertisements for Panther Videos. Panther was the first company to release martial arts instructional videos to the public and the volume of videos that they released was staggering. Panthers video catalogue boasted videos on hundreds of martial arts and each video series had a significant subset of volumes. For example, Joe Moreiras Brazilian Jiu Jitsu series ran upwards of 25 plus volumes.

The End of an Era

Sadly, Panthers dominance of the home video martial arts instructional market would collapse in the late 1990s and early part of this decade as many more competitors landed on the field and vied for much of Panthers shrinking client base. Additionally, with the advent of the internet there was no need for a start up company to purchase thousands of dollars of magazine ads so a number of minor players flooded the field with their own videos and, soon, DVDs. This saturated the market and essentially made operation of Panther impossible. Panther eventually closed up shop and sold the rights to its library to Century Martial Arts.

Century, Panther and the Modern Era

Sadly, a number of classic Panther instructional videos do not hold up well in the modern era. This is understandable as everything progresses including the proper way to produce a martial arts video. However, those who completely dismiss Panthers early work as being outdated are not being completely fair as there is much value on many of the tapes and the low cost that Century Martial Arts provides these videos for more than makes up for their vintage negatives.

Again, Century Martial Arts has done the martial arts world a huge favor by providing these great instructional videos on the market when many other early companies libraries have faded into oblivion. If you wish to relive the classic era of instructional videos then browsing Centurys website may be a wise move.

In his first two official karate tournaments Chuck Norris lost both times. Instantly you may think that this would soundly defeat my premise that Chuck Norris karate is flawless but it does not. Not by a long roundhouse kick. Chuck Norris karate has since developed into the only way a real man beats up another real man in public. Why is that? Because Chuck Norris karate was developed by the only real man left on the planet. That man is, well, Chuck Norris.

With bulging biceps and a roundhouse kick that has been officially certified by the United States Army as a lethal weapon, Chuck Norris developed Chuck Norris karate and within 20 minutes of Chuck Norris opening the first Chuck Norris karate school 30 percent of the wanted criminals in the United States voluntarily turned themselves in while another 15 percent of wanted criminals died from fright. As soon as Chuck Norris put Chuck Norris karate on display in the movies and on television crime in the United States dropped another 10 percent and soon men everywhere were growing full beards and wearing black cowboy hats. Chuck Norris was well on his way to becoming a national icon and he was only 6 years old. Ok, maybe a little more than 6 but you get the idea.

The Boogeyman

It has been said that when the Boogeyman goes to sleep at night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. It has also been said that Chuck Norris does not sleep, he waits. Those two items come from the list of all things Chuck Norris and that is just one part of the butt kicking legend that is Chuck Norris and Chuck Norris karate. Since his defeat at those two tournaments early in his career Chuck Norris returned to those tournaments and won them both by removing the hearts of all of his opponents. That probably isnt true because it is something I heard once from my brother but it still sounds totally awesome.

Chuck Norris continues to add to his growing legend by being the first person to fly to the moon without a rocket ship, winning the medal of honor from the Navy because he saved a submarine by plugging a leak with his beard, and for his work in hunting down Saddam Hussein in Iraq by simply standing in the desert and yelling Saddam get out here right now! While Chuck Norris refused to be photographed with Hussein, rest assured that as soon as Hussein heard the voice of Chuck Norris he knew the game was over.

The term extreme martial arts is also referred to by its acronym XMA. This type of martial arts is a combination of many martial arts styles using a combination of philosophies, movements, methods and techniques. It is combined with gymnastics and acrobatics. Extreme martial arts is usually what is seen on TV, movies and on the web.

Those who are involved with the sport of extreme martial arts are of the thought that utilizing the skills that students learn can have them reaching goals once thought impossible and encouraging students to become better then was thought possible. The goal of extreme martial arts is to show as much strength of the mind as the body. If you can stand with your feet planted firmly on the ground and command the attention of others without using movement or sound, merely using the look in your eyes and a strong stance can show more power than any kind of flip, punch or kick.

The emphasis with extreme martial arts is on showmanship and pizzazz. XMA is not in itself a martial art, and displays and performances of this kind is usually accompanied by dance music and is done while wearing an XMA uniform.

Where You Can Find More Information on Extreme Martial Arts

With the popularity of extreme martial arts growing everyday, it is easier than ever to find classes that will teach you how to successfully begin to practice XMA. It is thought that those who practice extreme martial arts have more flexibility, strength of muscle and a higher degree of coordination.

This form of martial arts appeals to not only kids and teens, but young adults as well. It is also a more exciting and visually appealing form of martial arts that can be enjoyed by many members of your family.

You can look in your local yellow pages to see if you can find an extreme martial arts studio near you. If this doesnt offer you any suggestions, you might try searching on the internet. The internet will be able to give you much information regarding techniques, philosophies and where you can find an extreme martial arts class in your area.

Those who are pure martial arts practitioners frown upon XMA using the words martial arts to describe extreme martial arts because it lacks applications that can be used in the real world. There is another group that practices martial arts tricks and they frown upon the term XMA to describe what they do.

Karate is one of the most popular and widely practiced martial art forms in the world, and although there are various karate schools and courses that include both men and women, there are specific female karate classes that you can find if this is what you are interested in.

Your Options

When it comes to female karate courses, one of your best options is Northern Karate, a leader in the field of martial arts education and personal development. They believe that a martial arts education is a vehicle for self-discovery and positive change, and they truly believe that it can improve the world.

They participate in a variety of different activities and offer a number of different programs, including female karate classes.

Kikara is another great option that you have here if you are interested in finding female karate classes, and their program is based on the Sport Kickboxing Federation program, and is one which is a combination of kickboxing and karate, and which emphasizes fun and practical self-defense techniques and strategies.

Each location that they offer provides a truly unparalleled level of systemization, and this helps to increase their level of service to all of their customers. Each of their staff team members has been professionally trained and is experienced in the art of karate. As well they offer a unique follow up program that is aimed at helping their members to stick to and achieve their goals, whether that refers to increasing strength or self-confidence.

Advantages

There are many advantages that you can gain from attending a solely female karate program, and for one, you will be training and practicing with other women rather than with men as well, and this means that your opponents will be more your size and stature, and so you will be able to progress in the sport more quickly and easily.

Not only that but there is also a certain comfort factor that has to be taken into consideration, and many women find that they are much more relaxed and comfortable when they are training solely with other women, rather than with men as well. This is very important, because a serious amount of focus and concentration is essential for success in karate.

If you are interested in taking karate classes, coed or not, you are going to have to scour your local area and find out what options are available to you and then decide from here as to which specific school you are going to go with.

There are literally hundreds of different martial arts styles that are practiced around the world and one of the least known but most significant is the Haitian martial arts style. The term Haitian martial arts actually include a few different martial arts styles: Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu, and taekwando, to name a few.

Judo

Judo is one of the more popular and recognized Haitian martial arts styles, and it is a modern martial art style that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. It is a style in which the most prominent feature is the competitive element that is involved, and the moves and maneuvers that are used within this fighting style are truly incredible.

Judo strongly emphasizes a freestyle sparring as one of its main and most major forms of training, and sparring, even within safety rules and regulations, is much more effective than only practicing techniques. It helps a student to develop strategy and better reflex and reaction skills, and helps them to learn to use new and innovative techniques against a resisting opponent.

Brazilian Jujitsu

This is another incredibly popular Haitian martial arts form, one which is very different from any other in its class. It is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and which also emphasizes ground fighting techniques and submission holds, including joint locks and chokeholds.

Since its origination, Brazilian Jujitsu has evolved incredibly, and over time has developed into a relatively independent system that is practiced religiously by students across the world.

Taekwando

Taekwando is one of the most familiar Haitian martial arts styles, and it is a fighting style and combat sport that puts the most emphasis on kicking techniques. This is what makes it the most different from any other Haitian martial arts style and it is actually considered as being the most maligned of all martial arts, as in it you are asked to believe that it was created for the destruction of one man by another.

Taekwando works by bringing a fluid to motion and a grace to movement, and also brings self-confidence, self-awareness and self-knowledge to the practitioner. Typical taekwando training includes a system of blocks, punches, open-handed strikes, take downs, sweeps and throws.

In order to understand about any single martial arts form, you really have to have at least a basic knowledge on a few others as well, because all martial art forms share the same common ideal and basis.

The history of karate is filled with words I cannot say and names I cannot pronounce. For me the history of karate started one Sunday afternoon when I was 9 years old and I was flipping through the channels and stopped on a movie where one little Chinese guy was beating the heck out of about 14 Chinese guys and one British guy. It was great and the sound effects made my skin stand up and the hair on my neck bristle. The best part was when they would start talking. The words I was hearing were English but the words were not matching the movement of the actors mouths. It wasnt even close and this was my first exposure to the history of karate.

Probably the most significant figure in the modern history of karate was Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee considered himself a true martial artist and did not limit himself to the study of just one discipline but rather he studied many disciplines, including boxing, and then he eventually developed his own brand of martial arts. But Bruce Lee was also a karate champion and his first real introduction to the world was an extremely impressive display that he put on at the 1964 Long Beach Karate Tournament which was not only witnessed by many prominent martial artists but also by one of the crew members of the then hit television show Batman. From there Bruce Lee wound up on Batman as the Green Hornet and the history of karate would never be the same.

More Than Just A Movie

Bruce Lee detested making movies as his focus was more on practicing the martial arts, developing his skill, developing himself into a perfectly physically conditioned machine, and becoming immersed in the history of karate. Unfortunately the only history of karate that most people in the Western world know is all they have seen on television or in the movies. Jackie Chan does some quick moves in his latest movie and everyone thinks they just got a lesson in the history of karate. But karate was not meant to be a form of entertainment, it is meant to be a display of discipline and successful learning through hard work. To study the history of karate is to see a story of struggle and pain.

Karate is based on self defense and aggression is not part of the teachings of karate. The history of karate is filled with triumphs of the soul and defeats at the hands of barbarians and people with no self discipline. But karate survives as a cornerstone of the martial arts and as one of the true vehicles of self control and the ability to look deep into ones self and find your true inner person. Karate is a quest more than it is a lesson in using your hands.

The history of martial arts is one that should be taken incredibly seriously into consideration, especially when you realize just how spiritual and sacred all forms of martial arts really are. The history of martial arts is one that is full of various different martial art styles and techniques, one in particular being Tai Chi Chuan.

Tai Chi Chuan

Better known in its short form, Tai Chi or Chinese boxing, this martial art form is one of the most ancient and distinctive Chinese forms of exercise or attack and defense. It is specifically designed to provide relaxation in the process of body conditioning exercise, and this is also where it differs so greatly from so many of the other martial art forms.

Whereas most martial art forms consider attack being their primary goal, with Tai Chi the idea is to promote relaxation and spirituality, and it is a form that is practiced more for enjoyment than anything else.

Any given history of martial arts needs to include Tai Chi, because it was one of the very first martial arts forms to be accepted and practiced worldwide. It closely resembles kung fu, and as a mode of attack and defense it may be used with or without weapons. Freehand exercise is also commonly used here, and this style employs flowing, rhythmic and deliberate movements.

Kung Fu is also critical to discuss in the history of martial arts, and it is a martial art which is both a form of exercise and a spiritual transcending. The various different movements that are employed in this martial arts form are mostly imitations of the fighting styles of animals, and have such names as dragon, horse riding, frog and snake.

Karate is another of the major martial art forms that needs to be included in the history of martial arts, and karate can be considered as a form of self defense, a form of physical fitness, or even a way of life. It is one of the most commonly practiced self defense tactics in the world, and there are basically three main components that are included in typical karate training, which are: kihon, kata, and kumite.

Regardless of which particular martial art form you are interested in practicing, the most important thing is that you understand the history behind martial arts in general, so that you can truly understand the dynamics involved here and the importance of these self defense styles in general.

There are so many more components and elements that need to be incorporated here, and it is very important to take each into as serious consideration as the next, in order to get the best grasp on the subject of martial arts overall.

There are so many different martial art forms practiced around the world that it can often get confusing trying to remember each and every one, but above all else one that you should definitely be aware of and knowledgeable on is Japanese karate.

What is it?

Japanese karate is continually growing and evolving, and there are actually a few different forms or styles of Japanese karate that are practiced today. Judo is the most major, and it is developed from an older version which was known as Ju-Jitsu. Judo is considered as being a fun sport, as well as an art, a discipline, and an incredibly effective self defense style.

It is best known for the incredible throwing techniques that are used, and as well involves considerable grappling and wrestling moves that take place down on the mat. This include control holds, arm locks, and choking techniques, and one of the most important things to recognize about Judo is that it is a martial arts style that emphasizes safety and full physical activity for top conditioning.

One of the best things of all about Judo is that all age groups, genders and even disabled people are able to participate, and it is incredibly effective for developing self discipline and respect for oneself and others, and it provides the means for learning self confidence and self esteem.

Aikido is another of the most commonly practiced styles of Japanese karate, and it is a relatively modern and non-competitive martial art form that relies primarily on the use of techniques combined with energy in order to control and redirect an opponents force. It is one of the most comprehensive and effective martial art forms, one which provides an excellent basis for both physical and spiritual development.

Karate is yet another of the most well recognized Japanese karate styles, and one of the most widely practiced as well. It is a martial art of Japanese origin, one which deals with attacks through evasive body movements and blocking. As a self defense system karate teaches a set of principles that can be applied in almost any situation, and the sporting element of karate is what allows people of a sporting inclination to be able to test their own karate skills against others.

There are literally hundreds of different martial art forms that are practiced around the world, and although each is certainly different in its own way, either in regards to the history behind it or the techniques and movements used within it, all martial art forms actually share the same basic ideal, which is to promote self defense and protection techniques.

The scope of Japanese martial arts is enormous. Some forms of Japanese martial arts are Kendo, Judo, Jujutsu, Sumo, Kenjutsu and Karate to name just a few of the many different forms of this ancient art that can be practiced.

It is thought that the reason that the Japanese are so skilled in martial arts and the weapons associated with it is because when you compare Japan with the rest of the world, their war tools evolved at a much slower rate. This is believed to have given the warrior class more opportunity for studying their weapons in greater depth than many other cultures.

In more recent times there has become increased specialization and Japanese martial arts has taken on the trappings of budo. Budo can be translated loosely to a higher purpose than just mastering arms. Japanese martial arts are quite diverse and there are much differences in techniques, styles, philosophy and tools of training.

What About Karate?

One of the most recognizable forms of Japanese martial arts is karate. The word karate means empty hand. It is not defined in the strict sense as on of the Japanese martial arts because it is a fusion of a martial arts of Okinawa and Chinese martial arts. Rather it is often referred to as a martial arts form that was adopted and refined by the Japanese.

The practice of this Japanese martial art is characterized by kicking techniques executed from a fixed and stable stance and linear punching. Practitioners of this type of Japanese martial arts may use weapons developed from farm tools that were once used by the peasants of Okinawa. Practitioners of karate also practice a lighter form of the martial art and have many no-contact competitions.

Some philosophies and principals associated with this form of Japanese martial arts are courtesy. You are to begin and end karate with it. It is also thought that an offensive attitude has no place in karate. Those who practice karate are urged to know themselves first in order that they may know others. In order to be successful in this form of Japanese martial arts you must let your mind go free and you should confront all problems with the Karate spirit.

The philosophy of karate includes the thought that karate training doesnt stop in the dojo and that the practice of this Japanese martial art is a lifelong training. They also feel that an accident is the result of one being negligent and that the spirit is more important to karate than mere techniques.

There are many different styles of martial arts that can be practiced today, and karate is easily one of the most popular. Karate is a truly incredible art form, one which is built upon the basic concept of merging the body and mind into a defensive weapon and using it to protect not only ones own self, but others as well.

Karate has actually always been one of the most practiced martial art forms in the world, and it strongly relies on physical coordination and mental focus. There are many different physics that are involved with this particular type of martial arts, and this is important because in any fight between two people, both of the fighters bring in a certain amount of energy to the situation.

Generally a stronger person will be able to exert more energy and stamina than a weaker one, but this does not mean that they will always come out on top. It is also important to realize that just because someone is taller this certainly does not mean that they are stronger or in any way that they will come out as the victor simply because of their physical stature.

Concentration

Concentration is one of the absolute most key elements involved in karate, and you first of all have to begin by concentrating all of your strength into one relatively small area. Without the proper concentration no moves can be made properly and they will not be effective.

You also have to have serious dedication in order to be successful at this martial art form, and if you are interested in learning about it, then there are a few steps involved in doing so.

The Beginning

When you first start learning about karate, you are going to be introduced to certain individual techniques, and this includes single blocks and strikes, for instance. These are basically the easiest of all to learn and as well are incorporated into so many of the other, more advanced karate moves that they are basically essential to learn in order to progress in the activity.

Influences

There have been a number of different and significant influences on karate over the years, and Korea and Japan in particular have been very influencing on the martial art form. Traditional karate in the United States actually entered principally via those members of the military who learned it in Okinawa or Japan and opened schools upon their return.

Karate is one of the most well known and well respected self defense forms in the world, and everyone knows that as you progress on through in the sport you work your way up the belt system. As students pass through the ranks of grading examinations they are awarded with different colored belts, and the color and order in which they are used varies, depending on the school and teacher.

The white belt is the first belt you would receive, with the black belt being the last. The color of belts used here is by no means merely some random selection, as each different belt has a meaning symbolizing advancement and increased awareness.

The belts have incredible significance to the activity of karate in itself. Not only is the color belt system a true representation of rank advancement but as well it is an acknowledgement of individual and personal growth. It shows to people how far you have progressed in the learning of karate, and you should be proud over this.

Karate Belt Display

A karate belt display is a type of display case that you can get to showcase your belts as you progress on from each of them. For instance, once you have moved on to the second belt from the white belt, you can put your white belt in this karate belt display and showcase it somewhere in your home where guests will be able to see it.

This karate belt display will not only allow others to recognize your talents, but as well will make you feel proud and keeps your confidence high, reminding you of how far you have come.

Where to Buy

If you want to get a karate belt display for yourself, you can first speak to the karate center that you attend as they are sure to have some options available to you but other than that there is a variety of different stores that offer these sorts of display settings.

Karate Supply for instance, is one company you can go to, and they are a fantastic company that offers not only various display cases and settings, but also various other equipment and accessories for your self defense training needs.

The Black Belt Shop is another great option, and besides display offerings they feature apparel, belts, books, boxing, DVDs, gear bags, gift ideas, patches, punching bags, stretchers, weapons, videos, uniforms, and much more.

It is also one of the most widely recognized martial art forms, as it is very commonly included in television and movies, thereby making the public very aware of its presence in the world.

There are many different pieces of equipment and accessories which are included in the combat sport of karate, and one of the most important of all are the karate belts. The different karate belts are dyed in varying colors, each color representing a different progression or skill level in the sport.

The black belt is the highest belt color that one can attain, white being the lowest. The believed history behind the karate belts system is that the early martial artists began their training with a white belt and then as they began their training and continued practicing the sport it eventually became stained black after years of sweat, dirt and blood soaking into it.

How to Tie Your Karate Belts

Learning how to tie a karate belt is one of the very first things that all students learn, and it is important that the belt sits above the hip bones and tied firmly so that it will not come undone. The ends of the belt should always be of equal length, and both ends of the belt should exit the knot downwards.

You should never let the belt cross itself at the back, mostly for aesthetic reasons but also because it is not that comfortable and can get in the way during karate practice.

Where to Buy Them

If you need karate belts, whether for personal or professional reasons, there are a number of different locations available that offer them. Karate Equipment USA for instance, is one great option that you have. They offer not only a variety of belts but as well other karate equipment and accessories, and all at very affordable prices.

Tiger Strike is another company that would be useful here, and they are truly your one-stop source for all your martial arts supply needs, including weapons, uniforms and equipment. They offer the lowest prices on a variety of martial arts supplies and equipment from the best manufacturers around the world, and they carry training equipment, weapons, uniforms, sparring gear, and much more.

Although there are various forms of karate that you can choose from to practice, if you are interested in getting involved with one you are going to need the proper karate equipment. There are some pieces of karate equipment that are necessary and some which are optional, and it is important not only to determine which are which but also to determine which specific ones you are going to have to get.

Make a List

First you have to consider what specific type of karate you are going to be practicing, and then find out from here which specific pieces of karate equipment you are going to need. There are many resources that are available to help you with this. All styles require karate mats and most require belts, and then there are a variety of accessories that you can choose from as well.

Before You Buy

Before you head out, you should use your list to help you set out a sort of budget, and this way you will have at least a remote idea of what you can spend and thus will be less likely to end up going overboard and spending more than you need to. Although you can generally find karate equipment quite cheap, it is important to remember that if you start to get carried away and buy more than you need to you can end up blowing a fair bit of money.

Where to Buy

There are actually quite a few different companies that offer karate equipment, one in particular being Superfoots. They are a company that is constantly making every possible effort to provide quality sporting goods at reasonable and affordable prices, and they feature a lengthy list of categories, including: uniforms and belts, sparring and boxing gear, martial arts weapons, training gear, martial arts videos, accessories, martial arts footwear, and more.

The Martial Mart is another great option, and they are a company that makes every possible effort to provide you with high quality karate equipment and related products at reasonable and affordable prices. They offer one of the largest and most varied selections of karate equipment, including: sparring gear, uniforms, weapons, rank belts, training gear, accessories, footwear, and more.

Remember

Regardless of where you actually go for your karate equipment needs, you want to make sure that you take time to compare and contrast during your shopping experience so that you can get the best value possible.

Karate is one of the most popular and widely taught forms of martial arts in the world, and the most important aspect of all in karate is learning how to perform the proper karate moves. There are literally hundreds of different karate moves that are included in the sport, but a few which are of particular importance.

Upper Block

The upper block is usually one of the very first karate moves that you will be taught, and it is one of the simplest to learn. For it you need to begin by having your left arm up and bent over your head in the Jodan Uke position, hold your arm at a 45 degree angle to your head, with your palm facing away from your face.

Remember to keep your shoulders in a normal and relaxed position, making sure that the right arm is in the ready position and tucked under your shoulder with your forearm parallel to the floor with your palm facing up.

From here you need to bring your right arm out in an upward crossing movement at the same time bringing the other arm down and across the face returning it to the ready position. The point is that the right arm ends up making a complete twisting motion, thus rolling the attack over your head.

Elbow Strike

This is another of the most essential karate moves to learn, one that actually has the most power, namely because elbows are practically all bone and so they can definitely cause some damage when they need to.

To complete the elbow strike you need to extend the arm you are going to use to strike fully to the front, making sure to keep a slight bend in your elbow. Keep your hand in a fist, with your palm facing towards the floor, and then pull your elbow as quickly as you can behind you in a straight line to the target, rotating your arm slowly as you do so that by the time it reaches your target your palm has turned to facing up.

It is important to use the power of both your hips and your legs in this move, so that you have the most possible strength, and once you have completed the move you should retract your elbow immediately to prepare for another strike.

Palm Heel Strike

This is not one of the more basic karate moves but one just as important, and it is a technique that is usually used on an opponents head.

There are many other moves that are learned in karate as well, and as you progress in the sport you will continue to learn more complex and difficult moves.

Just as a baby needs to learn to stand before he walks and needs to learn to walk before he runs, in order to succeed in karate you will have to take baby steps as well. One of the first baby steps you will need to take to learn karate are the proper karate stances.

It is important when learning and practicing karate that the proper foundation is laid for karate stances. Only by practicing and perfecting these karate stances will one be able to move forward in the marital art of karate.

The Ready Stance

In most karate classes the students will line up, feet together as the instructor stands before them. The students will then exchange a bow to the instructor or sensei and to the nations flag. The sensei will then call out ready stance. For this karate stance you will move your right foot until you are standing feet shoulder width apart. Your knees should be bent slightly and hands held out in front. Your hand should be closed and held about 6 from the body. Your shoulders should be squared, eyes straight ahead and ready to go.

The Forward Stance

This karate stance moves from the ready stance. When you are going to make this karate stance you have two choices; a left or right forward stance. If choosing the left forward karate stance you will move the left leg forward two shoulder widths distance, keeping the right leg straight, toes pointed forward. Left knee will be directly over the heel with your back straight and shoulders square. Bring the left arm in front of you with fist closed placed just below your eyes and parallel to your shoulder. Hold your right arm horizontal to your body with the right fist touching the left elbow.

The Horse Stance

This karate stance is said to be an easy stance to learn. The reason that it is called the horse stance is because that when this stance is done correctly, you will actually look like you are sitting on top of a horse. To begin, be sure that your shoulders are square with both hips and feet and drop both hands to your waist. You will need to hang your butt out and bend your knees, and the deeper you can go in this karate stance the better.

The Fighting Stance

This will be the final karate stance you will learn. There are many forms of martial arts that will not teach the student this karate stance until they have acquired their first colored belt as all students begin at the white belt level. Once you have mastered the first three karate stances, you will be taught this final stance and be ready to move on to learning more complicated and advanced techniques.

When you think about karate uniforms, you will generally think of white colored apparel that consist of a Kimono or shirt, a Dogi or Keigoki which are pants and a belt that can be colored white or some other color, and it may interest you to know that these uniforms were first introduced by a person name Jigoro Kano who is credited with founding Judo. If you have a belt of a certain color, it helps denote your rank as well as expertise and it is commonly held that a white colored belt denotes a beginner in Karate, while the black colored belt denotes the highest possible level of expertise and rank in Karate.

However, there can be differences to interpretation of the color of the karate belt with different organizations having their own method of giving rank to different colored belts, and it is also seen that within a particular rank there are further sub-divisions and there are even different styles as also variations to karate itself.

Know The Schools Requirements

Furthermore, before actually starting your karate uniforms purchase, you need to ascertain whether the school you are attending has any particular requirements, though by tradition, the karate uniforms are white with different belt colors as already stated before. However, it has now become more common for karate schools to opt for various colors in their uniforms and belts, or even allowing use of patches on the uniforms. Next, you may wonder whether buying the karate uniforms also means that you get a belt along with the uniform. It is common practice for karate uniforms to be sold as a set that includes jacket and pants as well as generic belt that is white in color.

Once you have decided on buying karate uniforms, you need to consider whether they should be made out of 100 percent cotton, or whether a polyester blend is preferable, and this is especially worth considering because many discounted karate uniforms are made from these two types of materials. And, in the same vein, you need to decide on the weight of the karate uniforms which could be light, medium and even heavyweight and you should also decide whether the pants need to have drawstrings, or are to use elastic waistbands.

Another consideration when choosing your karate uniforms is whether the cut should be traditional or tournament with the former type having longer pants and also sleeves, while the latter type mean having shorter pants and sleeves. The bottom line is that a good karate uniform can be one that has the right quality as well as craftsmanship while a great one will have all that and more, and the size also matters so that you should choose the karate uniforms according to your height, which is more important to you than buying a particular brand.

Ok so when they asked me to write about karate weapons I instantly thought that this would be really cool because I can write about ninjas! Seriously, who does not like to write about ninjas? But in my research for this piece I was disappointed to find out that ninjas were like the scavengers of the martial arts world and that they picked whatever discipline suited them. Ninjas did, however, use some pretty cool karate weapons. I bring up ninjas not only because ninjas are so cool but also because the average persons only exposure to true karate weapons is probably through the ninjas they have seen in the movies or on television. That is why I believe that ninjas offer a high educational value and I will use ninjas as guides through our tour of karate weapons.

Actually, the younger readers will recognize many of the karate weapons we will be talking about because they are used by certain ninja turtles that they may have seen. The first of these karate weapons, and probably the most popular, is a sword known as a katana. Most people are familiar with a katana in some form or another as pretty much any large bladed sword with an ornamental handle and a large decorative disc at the base of the sword where it meets the handle is a katana. These things hurt so avoid getting whacked by one if you can.

Totally Awesome

The next karate weapon to look at looks like a police billy club but with the handle sticking out of the side rather than being on the end. You traditionally see ninjas holding these weapons along their forearms and then striking with them with lightning fast ninja speed. Then you have the sais. A sais is the little dagger type karate weapon with the out of control handle that looks like a moustache. The ninja will either strike within arms length with these or throw them with the deadly accuracy only ninjas possess. The final karate weapon we will look at is the kama. The kama is basically a small version of a farmers scythe which is that big thing with the blade that Death carries around with him. The kamas usually have straps on the handle so the ninja can fling them around with deadly accuracy.

So the lesson here is dont mess with a ninja because they know a lot of ways to really hurt you and they are carrying some very cool weapons with them. Plus ninjas are sneaky and they dress in black so you dont see them coming. Well, you could see them coming in the day light but that is difficult because we all know that ninjas are nocturnal and feed on human flesh by night to survive. I think I have my cool characters dressed in black confused.

Your child has been flooding with images of martial arts. From the movies they watch starring experts like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Chuck Norris, to cartoons and kids shows such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Power Ranger, kids are already interested in the martial arts.

Benefits Associated With Kids Karate

There are many forms of martial arts, especially the ones that originated in Okinawa and Japan whose first philosophy is to teach respect and first do no harm. Lots of parents are under the impression that kids karate is a violent sport and the very emphasis that martial arts stresses is nonviolence.

When your child watches martial arts demonstrations in the movies and on TV, they are under the impression, just as adults are that martial arts is a way to commit violence. When you enroll your child in kids karate, your child will learn that this isnt the true meaning of Japanese martial arts. The very word karate refers to empty hands.

When your children are enrolled in kids karate it opens a door to teach them respect for others, and is a way for them to build confidence and self esteem which is the path they need to be on to become responsible and happy adults. Todays society has become obsessed with the sense of self. We have lost the feeling of belonging to a community and thinking of others needs as well as our own. When your child becomes involved in kids karate, they learn to respect the wants and needs of other people which in turn makes them into well-adjusted, caring adults.

How to Find a Kids Karate Program

You should have no problem finding a variety of kids karate programs. There are many martial arts schools that specialize in teaching young children the methods and techniques of karate. You may be presented with so many choices that it becomes confusing. You want to choose the best school for your child to attend when learning kids karate and this can be more difficult.

You can begin by asking friends and neighbors for their recommendations. Once you have several suggested kids karate schools, you will need to visit them to see what types of teachers, equipment, philosophies and methods are used. Try to attend at least one kids karate class for each program you are considering. You will see what the children are learning, the overall mood and attitude to be able to make a more informed choice.

Martial arts are incredibly popular in the world today, and most people actually do not realize that all martial arts are art forms that have been around for centuries upon centuries. They are basically systems of codified practices and traditions which are used for training and combat.

There are various different forms that can be practiced, including combat skills, fitness, self-defense, sport, self-cultivation, meditation, mental discipline, character development and many more.

There is a great diversity that is present within martial arts, however even though there are numerous different styles and formats that are used, broadly speaking they do all share the same goal, which is to learn how to defeat a person physically or defend oneself or another from threat or danger.

Styles

It is very important to be aware of the different martial arts styles that are out there, because each is different and unique in its own way. There are literally hundreds of different styles, including: American, Brazilian, Filipino, Greek, Indian, Indonesian, Israeli, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese.

Learning

If you are interested in the martial arts and want to learn about them for yourself, then you should know that you have a lot of options in this regards. There are many different classes and courses that are available for you to take, and it should definitely not be hard to find openings in your area because the activity is so incredibly popular worldwide.

However, before you can find the right location, you are going to need to decide which martial art in particular you want to learn. In order to do this, you first want to assess your physical condition, and if you have any physical limitations that may affect your ability to practice a certain style then you will have to take this into consideration.

As well you will want to gain a bit more information and educate yourself more on the different martial art styles so that you can learn more about them and decide on which is best suited to you and your needs and also the one that you think would be most enjoyable. Once you have done this, you can summarize all of the information that you have just learned and use this to match your preferences to the right martial art style that will support both your physical state and long-term interest.

Regardless of which particular style you decide to practice, the most important thing is that you are taking the time and putting in the effort to get active and train yourself in a holistic and spiritual form of exercise.

As there are many different styles of martial arts, there are many different types of martial arts equipment available. In general, such equipment is designed to protect the wearer from any needless injury that may occur in the context of performing ones martial arts drills, techniques and sparring exercises. Because of the issue of safety, it becomes critical to select the right martial arts equipment so as not to risk any unnecessary injury. Such equipment includes gloves, pads, shin guards, eye protection, kick padding and many other items.

While there are exceptions, it is best to stick with name brands that cater to professional martial artists. Often, the inexpensive items sold in sporting goods stores are not exactly top of the line martial arts equipment and can, quite honestly, be unsafe to wear or use. Now, this does not mean that one should go out and overspend on equipment. What it does mean is that a person should use consumer common sense and purchase the type of safety equipment that will do exactly that: keep you safe!

Purchasing Used Martial Arts Equipment

While it is always a wise choice to look for a deal or a way to save some cash, when it comes to the purchase of used martial arts equipment this is not a wise practice. This is not to say that one can not find good deals or find high quality equipment for sale online or in second hand sporting goods shops. On the contrary, there are decent deals on decent second hand equipment, but such quality used martial arts equipment is rare to find. Part of the reason for this is the fact that if the equipment has been used then it has suffered a certain degree of wear and tear. This is somewhat dangerous to the person who is using this second hand equipment because the degraded equipment may not be able to effectively protect the wearer. Boxing gloves, for example, if they are degraded may end up leaving the hand open to a severe injury such as a broken wrist.

If you do decide to buy used, do so only after careful examination of the items. This way you can be sure that no defects are present. However, purchasing new would be much wiser and is recommended instead. So, in the absence of an examination, stick with name brands and brand new equipment and you will be a much happier martial arts practitioner.

There are many different styles of martial arts that you can practice, but regardless of which one you choose to focus on, you are going to need certain martial arts gear in order to do so. Having the proper martial arts gear is going to be critical to your overall success, and if you are looking for your own gear, there are a few places in particular you will want to know about.

Bushido

This is definitely one company that you are going to want to become familiar with if you ever need martial arts gear, and they should in fact be your first choice when it comes to all martial arts supplies and equipment. They carry one of the largest and most full lines of martial arts gear in the world, including mats, books and videos, training equipment, uniforms and more.

They have been around for a little over a decade now, and over that time they have worked incredibly hard to become the well recognized, well respected company that they are today.

Dragons Den

This is another great option available to you for martial arts gear, and they feature martial arts supplies for punchers, kickers, grapplers, and everyone in between. They are always well stocked and up to date with the new and most innovative martial arts equipment and accessories, and all at very competitive prices.

They even offer an online catalog, so if you have access to a computer and the Internet and shopping online is going to be easier for you then you have this option as well.

Determining What You Need

Before you can really go to this or any other martial arts supplies store however, you are going to have to determine what you are going to need. Uniforms are needed for almost all types of martial arts, and so you will most likely need to add this to your list, as well as sparring gear, which can consist of anything from sparring gloves to a punching bag.

Training DVDs and magazines are also great, especially if you are training a large group of people, because then you can use these to help you better explain the basics of the particular martial art you are teaching.

The most important thing to realize is that there is some really great martial arts gear available on the market today and some really great companies to purchase from you just have to take a bit of time and choose the one best suited for you and the one that is going to offer you the best value.

Martial arts are not only useful to learn because they can help you learn how to not only defend yourself but others as well, but they are also fun and enjoyable to practice.

There are so many different martial arts schools that you can choose from today, that is can often become rather difficult and even frustrating simply trying to decide on a particular one to attend. However, if you are aware of the best options for martial arts schools, then at least you have a starting point to work from.

The Best of the Best

One of the top martial arts schools in the world is Davis School of Martial Arts, which is a traditional martial arts school that allows you to learn the history, terminology, and etiquette that is involved with the martial arts. They only teach traditional martial arts, have separate adult and childrens classes, and offer a suitable environment to train and practice in.

They believe that respect is one of the most important things that you can be taught here, and that with the proper manners and etiquette a student can give the very best of themselves to others and bring honor and respect to the martial art form that they practice.

They understand that teaching a student how to focus is a key element, not only in the martial arts but in life in general, and learning how to focus will help by bringing discipline to the students martial arts training as well as to their personal life.

Another of the top martial arts schools is the Karate Academy, a martial arts training academy that has been around for several decades now, and which offers a variety of activities and programs, including private lessons. The creator and leader of the academy, Steve Flores, is a member of the United States Karate Alliance and he is basically the master of this martial arts academy.

The Mountain Eagle Karate Academy is definitely one martial arts school that you will want to be aware of, and they reinforce true family values such as honesty, loyalty, integrity, responsibility, and good manners. They also introduce manners and etiquette as being large parts of the teachings, and they believe that every single student has the potential to gain experience and knowledge of the martial arts.

In addition to increasing awareness of personal safety and self-defense, self development and improvement, this martial arts school focuses on attributes such as self-discipline, confidence, mental and physical strength, and coordination.

When it comes time for you to choose from these martial arts schools, you not only want to consider factors such as the programs they offer and the prices they offer them at, but also which is best suited to you and your particular needs.

When you start out on martial arts training, you will no doubt is in need of a good pair of martial arts shoes that will help you train better and which should be comfortable so that they help support the feet and which also have spinning point on soles. The importance of having on a good pair of martial arts shoes can be evidenced from the fact that it is not just about mastering the discipline that is important, but also having the correct footwork.

Proper Footwork

You could be lightning quick on your feet and very lithe as well, but it may all come to nothing if you are not able to coordinate the movements of your feet, and proper footwork is necessary to help you maintain balance, dodge from blows and stay on your feet even when hit, and all this will only be possible if you have the right martial arts shoes on your feet.

The best thing you can do to improve your martial arts skills is to find the highest quality martial arts shoes that will not only help you with your footwork, but will also add to your speed. Thus, before you actually venture out to buy you martial arts shoes, you need to be aware of certain dos and donts,

First off, your martial arts shoes should be made of the right material that means they should breathe well and not weigh too much, and using less or no support for the heels and also forefoot may be advantageous, and non-slip outsoles can prevent you from falling, while martial arts shoes made from leather may prove to be an extravagance you could do without, unless of course you are especially well heeled.

Next, you may also want your martial arts shoes to come in different designs as also colors, and a little fashion to them would not do you any harm as long as they fit well and even though you should choose functionality over fashion, it doesnt hurt to look good if you can.

Before selecting your martial arts shoes, makes sure to walk about in them for a bit to check for any discomfort, especially in the arches, heels and even toes. For greater choice you could check out the many online stores that stock all types and makes of martial arts shoes and even eBay and Yahoo Shopping are other good resources worth checking out. And, it would also pay to read up reviews of different martial arts shoes to get a better idea of what each one can offer to you in terms of style, comfort and functionality.

Martial arts are incredibly popular, not only in the Eastern area of the world where they originated, but in the Western world as well, where today they are practiced almost religiously by many people. If you are interested in practicing any martial arts, then you are going to need to get yourself the necessary martial arts supplies.

As with basically any other type of product, there are certainly many of options available when it comes to martial arts supplies, however also as with basically any other type of product, there are a few in particular that are really worthwhile and which you will want to become familiar with.

Superior Martial Arts

This is one great option in particular that you have, and Superior Martial Arts is a company that offers one of the largest and most varied selections of martial arts supplies in the world. They offer over 16,000 items for you to choose from, and so they are really the one-stop shop for all of your martial arts needs.

Century Martial Arts

This is another really great company that you can go to for martial arts supplies, and if you shop on their website, you are offered the following categories: belts, patch and achievement, sparring gear, t-shirts, apparel, targets and shields, wavemasters, fitness, weapons, and more.

Not only do they offer one of the largest selections of supplies for martial arts training online, but as well they feature them at incredibly affordable prices so you dont have to worry about breaking the bank simply over purchasing what you need to practice martial arts.

Remember

Regardless of which store, whether it is one of those mentioned here or another, you go to for your martial arts supplies, remember that the best idea is to go into it with a game plan, so you really want to make sure that you know what you are looking for and what you need before you actually get out and attempt to make any real purchases.

This is not only so that you can keep track of what you actually need in order to keep yourself organized and not get sidetracked, but as well by doing this you will be able to have a sort of budget that you can stick to and this will keep you from possibly going overboard and spending more than you need to, which is important because obviously no one wants to spend any more money on anything than they have to.

This is an online store that has come about thanks to the endeavors of Matt Canei who has won gold medal in Tae Kwon Do and who felt strongly that the availability of all these resources in one central location such as the Martial Arts Supply would greatly help people find what they are looking for in one place, and thus do away with the need to shop for martial arts supplies as also information from various sources.
